Plummeting Nintendo sales hit Game
Game Group is facing a distinct lack of festive cheer this year after the videogame retailer posted an unexpected pre tax loss of £18.8m in the first half of this year.
The decline stems from a collapse in sales of Nintendo products over the period with sales of both the DS and Wii notching up declines of 40%.
Many gamers are also increasingly turning to digital downloads.
Game are pinning their hopes on a series of Christmas blockbusters to revive their margins, notably Microsoft’s Halo: Reach together with fresh iterations of FIFA and Medal of Honour.
The group has already been forced to close 42 stores as it tries to balance the books, despite making a profit of £14.5m last year.
