The British got an insight into US political advertising when Radio Four played an ad designed to mobilise those opposed to a Mosque near Ground Zero

The commercial produced by The National Republican Trust Political Action Committee, formed to ‘help promote American values’ and support politicians who ‘share those values’, would fall foul of UK ‘incitement to racial hatred’ laws according to some bloggers.

As well as a radio commercial the ad was also produced in the form of the TV commercial below, which features on YouTube and so far has around 1,600 ‘dislikes’.

However, mainstream networks including NBC and CBS, turned down the commercial - which featured footage from 9/11 - saying it did not comply with their standards. As a result YouTube, and now Radio Four, have served as its primary outlets.
