Stockport design students are boxing up their degree show, putting it in a removals van and taking it on the road to help get their work noticed by potential employers.

Well graphic design students at Stockport College have decided that instead of waiting for the industry to come and see their end of year degree show, they will take their degree show to the industry.

The students have hired a seven and a half tonne removals lorry which they will adorn with their work and drive into central Manchester next month. It will act as a mobile studio with designers invited to hop on board and check out their work.

"We always found that those who actually came to see the show at Stockport always commented on how good the work was, but we realised that we could reach a much larger audience if we actually went to them as well," explained tutor James Corazzo.

“Last year the students packed up their folios, mock ups and laptops, hired a Routemaster bus and drove it from Stockport to Manchester city centre for the day. It went down really well, so this year we decided to do something similar."

This year's theme is 'Packing Up Moving On'. The students have created themed invites (pictured in our gallery) which they will personally hand deliver to Manchester agencies while dressed in removal firm overalls.

Alan Dalby, Ed Johnson, John Newton and Chris Shearston are the students who devised the idea and they worked closely with Manchester-based designer Dave Sedgwick, who acted as a mentor.

Sedgwick said: "I was asked by James to help out with the organisation of the degree show and was flattered to be involved.

"We all sat down, had a few chats and discussed the various options available. It helped the students to have a regular point of contact from within the industry, but it was their ideas and designs that have been created - I have purely helped with the organising and formulation of some of the concepts.

"I was also able to put them in contact with a local photographer, Ben Spriggs, who helped out with some photography for the promo materials. We all really hope that this years degree show from Stockport will be one of the best yet."

You can jump on board the lorry on 15 June in Manchester. It will accompany the full degree show which will run at Stockport College from 14 to 17 June. You can find out more on the degree show's website.
