Paver Smith account director Emma Gunby has been appointed the new head of communications and PR for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Gunby, 32, has been hired to raise awareness of lung cancer and boost the charity's national and regional profile. The former journalist joins the Liverpool-based organisation as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

She said: "My grandfather died from lung cancer so the work of the foundation is something which is very personal to me.

"The aim of the charity is the defeat of this devastating disease. It is my role to make sure everyone knows about the hard work which is going on behind the scenes towards this ultimate objective – from our world class research scientists looking at improving lung cancer detection and survival rates to the thousands of people the organisation has helped to give up smoking.”

Before working for Paver Smith Gunby was a journalist with the Press Association and the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo.
