Arthur Porter, former publisher of newspaper Crains Manchester Business, has begun a new direct marketing venture called Savapak.

The venture will see a bright red envelope containing money-off coupons delivered initially to 100,000 residents of Greater Manchester, which can be redeemed at local retailers and businesses.

All businesses in the region will also be offered a free online advertising coupon in an effort to attract customers to their business.

The model has been in operation in the US for more than 40 years and will be rolled out across the North West and then nationally.

Arthur Porter, explained: “During the 15 years I spent in the USA I saw plenty of opportunities for similar UK businesses. The business newspaper was one and SavaPak is another, only with SavaPak you don’t have to deal with editorial matters!

“Now more than ever, people are looking for a way to save money. The paid-for coupons will offer advertisers a cost effective and measureable alternative.”

Porter left Crains at the beginning of the year after two years in the post.
