National Museums of Scotland is to create a graphic design framework agreement to supply exhibition graphics, following the refurbishment of The Royal Museum Building.

The building is currently undergoing a complete £46m refurbishment of 18 gallery areas and is due to open in June 2011.

Once open, the gallery will require illustrations such as 129 silhouettes for exhibition walls, gallery and section graphic panels and within showcases. 22 map will also be created of various types, 103 diagrams through the Natural Science galleries, 11 composite graphics, mainly large scale, which will combine the use of flat colour block illustrations and photographs.

Also set to be created are 18 life like illustrations which will be placed throughout the Natural Sciences Galleries, with contextual images showcasing the appearance, habitat and behaviour of animals, special/complex illustrations incorporating 26 photographs, mainly for geological galleries and further commissions.

These will each be divided into separate lots.

All illustrations will be scheduled for completion by the end of June in readiness for art working at the beginning of July.

It is understood that six separate packages of work will be commissioned, although suppliers with the capability to handle more than one are asked to highlight which packages they are interested in.

12 suppliers are expected to tender for work across all of the lots, with a budget of between £90,000 and £150,000.

Interest should be registered online through Public Contracts Scotland before 22 March.

Invitations to tender will then be dispatched on 30 March.
