Ross Laurie, managing director of Edinburgh-digital agency Line has praised the work by the management team at Bigmouthmedia following news that the company was to merge with LBi.

News broke yesterday that the Edinburgh headquartered search company had agreed a merger with LBi International which would create the largest marketing and technology agency in Europe.

Laurie said that what Bigmouthmedia had achieved in the last few years was “truly impressive”.

He said that the company has taken an offering such as online search which was considered “a black art” and commercialised it, brought it to market and made it commonplace so that there was no longer a need for other agencies to work in specialist search.

“This is exactly what we would predict should happen, to all specialist houses, as our industry evolves and matures over the next 12-24 months,” Laurie added.

“Digital, and all its component parts, is no longer seen as the “new-new thing” and it is encouraging to see this type of merger as it demonstrates the evolution of our industry and the fact that clients are no longer treating digital strategy in silos with digital communications becoming central to marketing and business strategies.”

Laurie also said that he believed that the move would signal a sea change within the market.

“Search is dead – long live the full-service digital agency,” he concluded.
