Former Birmingham Post editor Marc Reeves has revealed that he is to launch a West Midlands edition of TheBusinessDesk.com, the business news and information website, at the beginning of February.

TheBusinessDesk.com started in Yorkshire in 2007 and a North West edition was launched in Manchester in 2009.

Reeves left the Birmingham Post late last year after an internal restructure by owners Trinity Mirror, which saw the title become a weekly publication.

Since his departure Reeves has been working on a number of consultative projects with local media organisations and the DCMS, but a recent meeting with TheBusinessDesk.com founder David Parkin led to discussions about a West Midlands edition, with Reeves at the helm.

Reeves has recruited Duncan Tift as his deputy editor and is also poised to appoint another experienced business journalist to add to the team. Over the course of the coming months Reeves also aims to develop a commercial team to support the website, but as the site goes live he will receive commercial and sales support from the team in Leeds and Manchester.

The Drum spoke to Reeves in more detail, just before the news broke that he was to launch The Business Desk in the West Midlands.
