Following her first Twitter inspired project, illustrator Johanna Basford has launched a sequel which will see her illustrating Twitter suggestions for a non stop 24 hour period.

In October last year Basford created the first interactive illustration created using Twitter. Over a 48 hour period, she invited the online audience to contribute ideas in 140 characters or less, which she then incorporated into a rambling pen and ink illustration.

The new non-stop 24 hour project kicks off at 0900 today, with Basford looking for suggestions in 140 character or less for items to be included in the second #TwitterPicture.

By end of the 24 hour marathon drawing session at 0900 on Friday 15 January, Basford hopes to have illustrated all of the received Tweets, resulting in an eclectic, microblog-inspired artwork.

The basic fundamentals of #TwitterPicture remain the same: one Tweet suggestion per person. All the suggestions received will be drawn by hand in inky fineliner to create one super sized eclectic snap shot of Twitter imaginations.

The studio webcam will be streaming the drawing and tweeting process live. You will be able to log on and watch the #TwitterPicture take shape whilst keeping an eye out for your suggestion making an appearance.

In addition to the live streaming, Basford is creating a stop frame motion film to archive the process. Every 4 minutes throughout the 24 hours, a photograph will be taken of the work in progress.

The completed #TwitterPicture will be uploaded to Flickr where those that suggested images will be able to Tag the part of the #TwitterPicture they suggested and link it back to the original Tweet.

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design – where Basford studied textile design 5 years ago – has supported the project by providing high speed internet access which will allow 24 hour streaming of the event.

#TwitterPicture 2 is sponsored by Aberdeen-based design agency Hampton Associates and local beer brand PunkDog.com. The project also received funding from the Dundee Visual Artists Craft Awards, part of Dundee City Council.
