Richard Midgley, managing director of An Agency Called England has left to begin his own business, called Ponderosa.

Midgley joined An Agency Called England as managing director two and a half years ago from Principles where he was client services director, spending 15 years at the agency having joined from the University of Cambridge in 1992.

Midgley said: “The main difference to what I hope to do to what is out there is that we are offering full service, just on amore flexible footloose and fancy free basis. It's not just consulting, it is offering brand strategy and planning but ensuring that is executed to ensure brands get a response - I'm using Brand Response as what I offer.”

He continued: “I believe there is too much of a disconnection between people who do branding, which can be very fluffy, and people who do response, which is all about numbers. I have worked in both areas for a long time and the benefits if you put the two together are much greater.”

Tony Stanton, chief executive of An Agency Called England, confirmed that Midgley would not be replaced and that his was his decision to leave the agency to begin his own consultancy.

“Richard has left with our blessing and we hope that he gets on well,” said Stanton. “We are continuing to work with him on selected clients going forward and one client in particular who he worked with while here. Everyone has been very mature and grown up through out his departure. There has been no acrimony whatsoever. Richard is a planner by trade and he hopes to offer a bespoke, planning, strategic proposition to certain clients and sectors that he knows well.”
