Liverpool will host a ten-day festival later this year to cement its reputation as a centre for design.

The Liverpool Design Festival will take between 30 October and 8 November and include exhibitions at the Crypt Hall of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Eco Design Show will feature environmentally friendly design and crafts while the Fashion Lab will allow trade buyers and the public to see work by talented new designers.

Masterclasses by industry professionals for fashion designers and a lively range of debates and seminars are also being planned.

And the festival will see the launch of 'Design Stars', a competition involving Liverpool schools to find the best local design talent in the 11-to-16 age group.

The festival is being organised by north west industry body Design Initiative with the support of Liverpool City Council.

Design Initiative's Sarah Elderkin said Liverpool has built a reputation as a centre for fashion and design.

"The Liverpool Design Festival aims to highlight the city as a location for creative industries and reinforce design as a major part of its economy," she said.

The organiser is inviting businesses from Merseyside's creative sector to get involved by arranging their own events such as studio openings, exhibitions and workshops.

More information about getting involved and exhibiting can be found on the Liverpool Design Festival website.
