A new website has been launched by Bath-based MediaClash to help parents seeking information on all aspects of independent education.

Tom Brown claims to be the only online guide to independent schools which combines a nationwide schools search and a breadth of editorial features.

The site is edited by Gail Dixon, a magazine and web editor who has worked at Bauer, Future and the BBC. Contributors include education journalists Rosie Millard and Nicola Woolcock, education correspondent of The Times, as well as headteachers, such as Vicky Tuck of Cheltenham Ladies College.

The site also includes a wide range of case studies featuring parents, pupils and teachers.

With more than 320,000 Google searches related to independent schooling every month, Tom Brown aims to help independent schools market themselves more efficiently through its free school search facility. Every independent school in the UK is offered a free listing - from nurseries to prep, senior and sixth form colleges.

Parents are able to search for schools by age range, location, mixed or single sex schooling, and day or boarding school. Already more than 1760 schools are listed, and there is the opportunity to create an enhanced listing with videos, interviews and more photography.

Commercial manager at MediaClash, Jane Ingham, said: "Decisions about their children’s schooling are some of the most important – and difficult – that parents will make. But with so much information available to parents from a variety of sources, we felt there was a clear gap for a simple service which brings all the key elements to help them make these decisions under one roof.

“Tom-brown.com aims to assist parents by providing detailed information at their fingertips, while offering independent schools a cost effective medium to reach them.”
