Sandy Wilkie, sales and marketing director at Robert Wiseman Dairies, commented:

“Given Burns’ connections to the milk industry we felt that putting some of his most famous works on these striking cartons was a fitting tribute for the 250th anniversary of his birth.

“I would hope this unique approach to celebrating the anniversary helps inspires another generation to read and appreciate the works of the Bard and take part in some of the 300 events in the Homecoming Scotland 2009 event programme.”

Paul Bush, chief operating officer, EventScotland, organisers of the Homecoming Scotland programme added: “The introduction of Robert Wiseman Dairies’ specially commissioned milk cartons is just one example of the excellent support Homecoming Scotland 2009 has had from Scottish based companies, as well as those further a-field.

“We are delighted that Wiseman have taken this initiative and encourage companies to get on board with what will be a fantastic year of events taking place throughout the country as part of the Homecoming Scotland 2009 programme to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.”

Jim Shields, marketing director of the Robert Burns World Federation, said:

“It’s a little known fact that Burns spent some time dairy farming during his short life so there is a long standing connection between Burns and milk. Wiseman paying tribute to our National Bard in this way seems very appropriate.”
