A new advert to promote the National Debtline for the Scottish Government has been created by The Union with the aim of helping Scots with financial problems.

The 30 second advert which was produced by animation company Ink Digital features a Debt Monster getting larger and larger while ignored before the main character calls Debtline for advice.

The campaign will also be supported online through a website and through leaflets being handed out in key outlets. Adverts are also being run on ARM machines across Scotland.

Other advice organizations such as Citizens Advice Scotland, Shelter Scotland and Money Advice Scotland are backing the campaign.

Michael Hart, joint creative director at The Union who created the advert alongside Ben Craig, said: “The challenge with this brief from the Scottish Government was to strike the right balance between stimulating response and making the advertising too emotional or depressing. This was a tricky balance, and it was only after detailed insight and creative testing that we found the right solution.”
