999 has won Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s Christmas campaign for 2008/9. Following a six-way pitch, 999 Design, has been appointed the creative partner for this year’s high profile ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’ campaign.

Consisting of above-the-line and below-the-line activity, Christmas Wrapped Up celebrates the fact that Glasgow boasts everything you need to have a magical, fun festive season.

The brand celebrates the magic and sparkle of Christmas and integrates stars, fairy lights and shows people eating out, shopping and celebrating, as well as landmark images of the city.

999 will co-produce and art direct a series of 10 and 30 seconds television adverts that will be screened on STV from 14 November.

The agency will also create a microsite which can be viewed via www.seeglasgow.com for the campaign which will go live from early November.

The Glasgow team will also develop outdoor ads as well as dedicated media adverts that will appear in Herald, Sunday Herald, Evening Times, London Lite and No1 magazine.

A key part of the campaign will see 999 developing 250,000 folding A5 Christmas supplements that will be inserted into the Newsquest titles.

Managing director of 999 Glasgow, Gavin Clark, said he was ‘delighted’ with the account win and announced that the consultancy will continue to focus on growing its public sector portfolio in 2008: “Winning Christmas Wrapped Up is a real coup for us because not only is it a highly creative campaign, but it forms a major part of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s annual activity.

“The inspiration behind the campaign is Glasgow itself and the great wealth of fun that can be had in the city over Christmas. We have tried to tap in to the sense of magic awash in Glasgow during the festive season and have used that to showcase all that is on offer to residents and visitors alike.”

He added: “Our Scottish roots are an intrinsic part of our personality and we believe this has helped us to win a number of high-profile public sector work, including this win from the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.”

Head of marketing for Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Tom Rice, said: “999 has been a tremendous part of the team in pulling all the different elements of the campaign together, and we look forward to seeing the result – a great Christmas for visitors to Glasgow and for businesses in the city.”
