Scotland’s latest PR agency, Cowbrough Communications, is set to fill one of the market gaps left from recent cutbacks at the government’s economic development agency, Scottish Enterprise.

The new venture, launched by former Scottish Enterprise senior PR executive Craig Cowbrough, will initially target SMEs in sectors which, according to Cowbrough, can no longer rely on the same level of communications support previously offered by the agency.

More than 250 staff left the government agency earlier this year following a wide ranging review of its operations.

“Clearly the refocus at Scottish Enterprise will have a negative impact on the level of public relations and media based support smaller growing companies used to rely on from the agency,” said Cowbrough who left the agency recently.

“Despite the threatened downturn our evidence suggests there are a lot of growing Scottish SMEs out there with great stories to tell. In sectors like energy in particular the government focus on renewables is making sure activity in this area remains buoyant and that’s something we will be looking to move into.”

The Glasgow based operation will also be focusing on public policy and business services clients.
