Manchester-based design consultancy Music has worked with Bolton Council on the creation of a brand for its markets.

The branding features the work of London-based illustrator Jonny Voss to capture the 'hustle and bustle' of the town's markets, and it also includes the Bolton place brand, which was created by fellow Manchester design firm Hemisphere.

As part of ongoing work with Bolton Council, Music's creative director David Simpson devised the identity and worked closely with the marketing team at Bolton and Voss.

Simpson said: “It has been great fun working with Jonny to bring to life what is a thriving part of Bolton's community. It is the first time we've worked together and the tone of his work seemed perfect for the job.”

The identity is to be launched around Bolton University's Freshers' Fair ahead of the 2008/09 academic year. It is intended to be rolled out over the coming months on all of the markets' promotional material and external signage.

Jane Pritchard, head of strategic development, Marketing Bolton, said: “We want to encourage new audiences to Bolton Market, like students, as well as retaining our existing loyal customers. The new brand appeals to such a cross section of people.”
