Michael Johnston named as new SNPA President

Michael Johnston, divisional managing director of Johnston Press has been confirmed as the new president of the Scottish Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA).

At the organisation’s AGM this week, the move to succeed Bill Laidlaw, managing director of DNG Media, with Johnston having previously served as vice president for the SNPA.

Johnston thanked Laidlaw for his work as president before commenting on his own plans in the role; “I’m looking ahead, I hope to see work continue to promote the many inherent strengths of Scotland’ local weekly press. Under the directorship of Simon Fairlclough, we plan to step up efforts to be more visible to the nation’s policy makers and influencers, as well as to media agencies and their clients. Crucially, we also want to remind everyone of the social, economic and democratic contributions which our papers make to the communities they serve.”
