Charlotte Thompson, a former managing partner at McCann Erickson Communications House, is to join the board at Manchester-based BJL.

Thompson, who is currently on gardening leave, is expected to make her bow at BJL in October as development director. It is believed her role will focus on growing the agency’s integrated offering.

Thompson, 34, joined McCanns in her 20s and was made the Prestbury-based agency’s youngest ever managing partner. She was responsible for building the agency’s public sector client base, as well as running some of the firm’s largest accounts - including Aldi and UPS.

Thompson’s arrival will mark the first board level appointment in over six years for BJL and the first since the management buy-out in 2004.

The appointment coincides with the arrival of former BBH production director Dave Robinson, who has joined as head of operations. The 34 year-old was responsible for creative delivery for major clients, including Audi, BA and Levi’s.

Managing director of the agency, Nicky Unsworth, denied speculation that Thompson will buy into the agency, but described the move as a “big appointment” for the company.

She added: “These two senior appointment will bring a new dimension to this business.

“Recent new business wins and increasing expectations from existing clients, means we have to invest in the best talent.”
