Kitchen manufacturer Magnet has appointed MediaVest Manchester to handle its £8million media buying business.

The decision, as first reported on The Drum website, brings an end to the firm’s 18-year relationship with the incumbent, Universal McCann.

Universal was invited to re-pitch for the business and joined MediaVest, PHD and Mediacom in the selection process. MediaVest was later shortlisted alongside Universal to go head-to-head for the business.

Anjum Ahmed, Magnet’s marketing director, thanked Universal for its input but said it was time for a fresh approach.

“In the last few years we have taken a strategic change of direction and moved both the advertising and PR accounts, which has seen some excellent success.

“We felt the time was right to also investigate alternative media strategies.”

Magnet runs a variety of above and below-the-line activity to support its four major sales periods each year and increase sales at its 164 stores nationwide.
