TJ Hughes has appointed Brilliant Media to handle its £4million media buying account.

Brilliant won the business from Chester-based Oakbase, which has been retained to handle the creative aspects of the campaign.

The Liverpool-based discount retailer is understood to have an on-going five-year contract with Oakbase, which was responsible for the firm’s TV-led advertising campaign in March this year - featuring Robbie Williams’ dad and Wayne Rooney’s brother.

Brilliant’s Chris Broadbent confirmed the win. “It’s great news for us. We’re hoping to reach the £20million billings mark by the end of the year and this takes us to around the £12million mark.”

The media independent has recently launched a recruitment division in Manchester, headed up by Mike Ashton and Gareth Good, and is looking to move offices within the city. However, Broadbent denied rumours that the firm is looking to move into the Manchester Evening News’ new offices.
