The TransPennine Express, the First Group-owned train operator, has appointed Code Computerlove to manage, develop and expand its current website.

The site is expected to retain its look and feel, however, Code will devise new content and improve functionality, while also increasing the site’s visibility through media strategy and planning.

The Manchester-based agency will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the site and core site updates; plus the agency will operate statistical monitoring, search engine optimisation, email and viral marketing, database registration and management, and DDA compliance.

Dave Crocker, marketing manager for TransPennine Express, said, “Our objective is for the website, whose address appears on virtually all informational and promotional material, to become the central focus of an active, stimulating and creative business generator.

”We want to optimise the site\'s search engine compatibility and to develop a wide range of inter-linkages between our site and the websites of existing and potential business partners such as tourism offices, hotel groups, airlines, airports etc. Moreover, we want our website to develop, expand and become ‘the only train website you need to visit’.”

Meanwhile, Code has created Upload - an interactive CD-ROM for Keele University to encourage students aged 16-18 to look into higher education and the benefits of the university lifestyle.

“The design of Upload, and overall appeal to this highly critical audience, is vital to its success. While its main objective is to educate, inform and provide guidance, the design style and techniques adopted ensure that information is presented in a non-patronising manner, complemented by MTV-style video footage, which gives it a pacy and edgy effect,” said Code account director Mark Sharp.
