Akzo Nobel has appointed Manchester-based digital agency Code to produce two new websites for its trade and consumer audiences. Code has been briefed with designing a new site for the paint company’s Berger brand, which is aimed at young couples and families, as well as creating a new Akzo Nobel retailer website.

The Berger site will employ a straightforward approach to its communication, offering an easy-to-use product guide and help on colour selection. Other features will include tips on home decorating and a comprehensive advice section.

The Akzo Nobel website will provide help and support to over 700 retailers that sell the firm’s products, which includes Crown, Sandtex and Sadolin. The site will keep retailers up-to-date with the latest new product launches, advice on merchandising and how best to display the products in-store.

\"The Berger brand does not currently have an online presence, so we’re aiming to improve both brand awareness and credibility,\" stated Mark Sharp, account director at Code. \"The new site will provide consumers with straightforward information and advice, combined with inspiration for creativity in the home. The Akzo Nobel site is destined to become the independent retailer’s ultimate guide to the company’s full range of products and how best to sell them.\"

In addition to the two sites, Code has been tasked with updating and maintaining the firm’s Crown Paint site and developing a supporting microsite.

Commenting on the relationship Crown retail brand manager, Traci Baxter, said: \"Code is undoubtedly one of the most responsive, flexible and organised agencies with which I have worked. The team there instils total confidence and their expertise, project management and design skills are second to none.

\"Crown has been impressed with Code’s work to support Crown Colour Week and we are looking forward to working with the agency on the Berger and Akzo Nobel retailer sites.\"

Meanwhile, in other news for the agency, Waterstone’s has appointed Code following the bookseller’s decision to end its relationship with Amazon.

The agency will work with Waterstone’s in-house team to develop an online bookselling service that will be launched in the autumn.
