Alliance & Leicester Corporate Bank is understood to have appointed Leeds-based Propaganda to handle forthcoming campaign activity, following a competitive pitch. The agency is now expected to join Cheltenham-based TDA on the Corporate Bank’s roster after fending off competition from at least three agencies.

Despite several calls into the Alliance & Leicester Corporate Bank marketing department, no key decision makers were available to comment at the time of going to press. Propaganda’s management team were also contacted by Adline but refused to comment on the speculation.

The agency has, however, announced the arrival of 23 new staff, coinciding with at least two significant new business wins, one of which is believed to be the Alliance & Leicester account, while the other is thought to be a major FMCG food brand with a rumoured seven-figure marketing spend.

Alliance & Leicester Corporate Bank has positioned itself away from the big four in the sector: Natwest, HSBC, Barclays and Lloyds TSB. Commenting last year, senior marketing communications manager, Tim Bartlett, said: \"The business banking market is moving rapidly and we want to stake our claim as a brand that is a real alternative to the big four. Our target customers are owner-managers of smaller businesses and this proposition taps into their dynamic, entrepreneurial attitude. They are open to considering good value offers as long as they make sound business sense and come from a trustworthy provider.\"

The bank recently announced its sponsorship of Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, for which TDA has been handling the communications strategy. Propaganda is expected to work alongside TDA, the bank’s retained direct marketing agency, handling the organisation’s above-the-line activity.
