Organisations are paying more attention to the need for websites to be accessible to users with disabilities or impairments, according to Edinburgh-based specialist consultancy User Vision.

The public sector in Scotland has seen growth, however, private sector companies in Scotland are also starting to look at web usability closely – with companies including Prudential, Scottish Life, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants hiring the consultancy in the last year.

Chris Rourke, director of User Vision comments: “The appreciation of good web usability and the need for specialist advice in this area has risen markedly in the last year or so.”

Meanwhile, Faster Stronger Lighter - which also specialises in web accessibility - has been hired by Penguin UK to develop an online forum for its National Blink Day.
