Following heavy criticism in the Daily Mail and other national press, Durex has withdrawn its sponsorship of a feature in Sugar magazine. Durex, had planned to sponsor a sex education feature in the May issue, but has pulled out at the last minute.

Sugar’s publisher’s Hachette Filipacci UK released the following statement on behalf of Sugar and Durex: \"Sugar, like Durex, is a trusted brand with an authoritative voice and is an ideal platform to communicate important sexual health information to teenage girls. Durex and Sugar originally agreed on the sponsorship some six months ago following joint discussions.

\"However having subsequently reviewed every aspect of the workings of the proposed partnership, including the content of the pages, Durex decided to withdraw its sponsorship.\"

Sugar has confirmed plans to go ahead with the publication of the ‘Sex Uncovered’ section and confirmed the feature had been vetted and approved by the Teenage Magazine Arbitration Panel.

The feature will run without sponsorship due to the late decision.
