The Scotsman's internet portal, scotsman.com has fended off stiff

competition from the likes of The Guardian Media Group, to lift the

prestigious Best Daily Newspaper Internet Site accolade at the national

Newspaper Society's new media awards.

Scotsman.com, which first went online in 1996, has grown into one of

Scotland's biggest newspaper sites, receiving more than six million

impressions a month and visits from more than 600,000 individuals - up a

third in the previous year.

The judges said that the site had shown "strong editorial lead, excellent

design and a commitment to a defined community."

Having picked up the award at Birmingham's Metropole Hotel, Stewart

Kirkpatrick, scotsman.com's editor, said: "We know that our site is very

good, our users know the site is very good and we are extremely flattered

that the Newspaper Society agree."
