Sipsmith Gin has marked its elevation as the official drink of Wimbledon with a back-to-front delivery from its anthropomorphic swan mascot.

‘Official Tennis of Sipsmith Gin’ uses all the right words in the wrong order to mark a sporting partnership on and off the iconic tennis courts, with the feathered host getting into a flap when placed on presenting duty.

Bedecked in full tennis attire, Mr Swan is nothing if not consistent, introducing ‘the official manicured grass of Sipsmith Gin’ and ‘the official ball machine of Sipsmith Gin’ to bemused listeners, much to the frustration of a watching Wimbledon official who is forced to correct the swan at every turn.

Having perhaps supped a little too much gin beforehand, the chaotic presentation continues similarly with the back-to-front bird mowing a likeness of his face on to No 1 Court with an insistence that ‘I get it’.

In a statement, Sipsmith Gin wrote: “Our charming film is directly inspired by the craftsmanship found around every corner of the Wimbledon grounds, from the exacting 8mm cut of the Center Court lawn, to the iconic umpire chair – reserved only for umpires (and swans).

“While the professionals perfect their serve on-court, we’ve taken it into our hands to help the nation perfect their serve off-court. From sensational cocktail inspiration to a personalized experience to help you choose your champion gin, we’ve done the hard work to ensure you find your perfect serve to sip while you watch the tennis this summer. Quite right.”

Devised by Jules Chalkley, executive creative director at Ogilvy UK, the campaign seeks to celebrate the craftsmanship to be found in every corner of Wimbledon with the craftsmanship that goes into creating the drink.
