The Guardian faced an awkward moment earlier today after accidentally publishing a tweet about its campaign to end the "female generation".

The title was of course referring to its commendable campaign to end female genital mutilation, but the typo prompted a few second looks and Twitter users quickly turned subeditors to bring the error to attention.

Other notable media typos include the BBC welcoming in the Chinese "year of the whores" in February instead of the year of the horse.

Woops.
