Gumtree celebrates Batman Day with online superhero showdown

To celebrate Batman Day, Gumtree has put together a ‘Battle of the Superheroes’ comparing Batman and Superman purchases on the website.

Batman proves to more popular across the board than Superman, with 7318 items listed, dwarfing Superman’s puny 1630.

More people bought Bat-suits than Superman costumes, at 928 to Superman’s 708. Additionally, Batman toys and childwear outsold Superman by 1381 to 270.

To celebrate Batman’s victory on the most Batmanliest of days Gumtree provided the Drum with five things you may not know about Batman:

1. The name Bruce Wayne comes from Scottish King Robert the Bruce and American Revolution hero Anthony “Mad Anthony” Wayne.

2. Prince had a number one hit with the score to Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie.

3. David Bowie was approached to play the Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, instead of jack Nicholson.

4. Batman fought Dr. Doom before the Fantastic Four ever did - in Detective Comics #158 (April 1950).

5. Kevin Conroy has voiced Batman more than any other actor – in around 25 cartoons and ten video games – spanning a whopping 22 years.
