BBH enrolls its entire staff in coding school

BBH has readied itself for future advancements in digital by enrolling its entire staff on a coding course.

The Drum has learned that all staff at the agency are being taught the basics of coding on Decoded’s ‘Code in a Day’ course, with a number of staff completing the course last week.

Of the decision to have all staff members learn to coden Mel Exon, chief digital officer at BBH and co-founder of BBH Labs, said: “At BBH we know that creativity these days is defined by a holy trinity of art, copy and code. It made total sense to send the whole agency on a course that helps us all understand more deeply what code can do for us.

“Everyone from team managers, strategists, producers, copywriters to UX and interaction designers have got a hell of a lot from it.”

The Drum has also taught some of its staff the basics of coding with members of the editorial, events and sales teams taking part in Additive's ‘One day code school’ last summer.

The agency's creative figurehead, Sir John Hegarty is understood to be in Australia at the time of writing, with a spokesperson for the agency explaining that he was not scheduled to undertake the course himself 'at this time'.

It is understood that the coding was scheduled prior to the agency retaining the BA advertising account,which included a new partnership model being introduced to service the account.

Last week, The Drum released interviews with Sir John Hegarty and BBH deputy creative director, Rosie Arnold discussing their views on the advertising industry, with both set to appear in Assorted Nuts, an upcoming coffee book featuring portraits of some of the UK's finest creatives, by Julian Hanford. The book is to be published later this year in association with The Drum.
