Cheshire-based ice cream store Snugburys has capitalised on the excitement surrounding the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who by unveiling a giant Dalek made of straw.

On display in a field in Nantwich, the 35ft tall sculpture was made to coincide with the shows milestone.

To accompany the stunt Snugburys is releasing a ‘DaLick’ ice cream cone, in honour of the BBC programme, with part of the cone’s cost being donated to Cancer Research UK.

The gargantuan statue’s steel frame took around 700 man-hours to complete with six tonnes of straw needed to cover the sculpture. The Dalek also features moving parts and audio.
