Earlier this month, Rupert Murdoch unveiled the new 21st Century Fox logo to a mixed reaction. Some were impressed by Pentagram’s stripped-back design, others were left unconvinced.

Quick to dismiss it as bland and not particularly inspired, despite Murdoch’s assertions it “signalled the promise of the 21st century”, many have said it is reminiscent of an “old telecom logo from the early 80s”.

As such, global crowdsourcing marketplace DesignCrowd launched a redesign competition it its wake, asking members of the public to submit their ideas for what a modern media company’s logo should look like.

With a share of a $500 cash prize for the winning logo up for grabs, the competition has already attracted over 50 submissions meeting Murdoch’s original brief.

DesignCrowd has said that it “is currently reaching out to 21st Century Fox,” however the contest is not actually endorsed or supported in any way by News Corp or 21st Century Fox meaning the likelihood that the winning design replaces Pentagram’s is highly unlikely.
