Cheeky ad agency infiltrates Roses Creative Awards with #joinbjl recruitment stunt

For agencies, big industry awards nights can be a great place to spot new talent and - after a few surreptitious nods, winks and drinks in quiet corners - poach some of your rivals' best staff.

But few companies are quite as brazen in their recruitment drives as ad agency BJL was at last week's Roses Creative Awards ceremony.

Presumably to help carry home its huge haul of 16 Roses awards including the Grand Prix, the Manchester outfit's cheeky team set about trying to entice staff away from their competitors with a guerilla marketing campaign dubbed #joinbjl.

First, they smuggled in a laptop and set up a Wi-Fi network visible to all who tried to get online during the show at Manchester's Mercure Hotel...

Then, they 'decorated' some of their rivals' well-earned trophies... ...and even McCann Birmingham creative honcho Vince McSweeney... Before congratulating themselves with a beverage or two... Of course, The Drum and the Roses Awards in no way endorse or encourage ambush marketing - but hats off to BJL's team for their candour.It is not yet known whether the campaign has scored the agency any new staff - or just left some nasty sticker marks on otherwise lovely trophies.
