Twitter users have been celebrating Ed Balls Day, marking the two year anniversary of when the politician tweeted nothing but his own name. While making an appearance at an Asda store in 2011, Balls was urged by an aide to search Twitter for an article mentioning him. However, he accidentally tweeted his self-search and, not knowing how to delete it, is has since been retweeted over 16,000 times.

Now, Twitter users mark the day in a similar style, by tweeting the Labour shadow Chancellor’s name. According to The Mirror, Balls said of the two-year anniversary: "I think the best thing I can do is not look at Twitter and bury my head in the sand - like George Osborne on the economy."He continued: "I don't really know what to say. I've got no idea how to respond really."The thing about being my age is that there are certain parts of the modern world that leave you baffled and speechless."
