Slipped Disc, an online classical music news site, launches a rebranded website with the support of SO Marketing

Slipped Disc is the world’s most read online classical music news site, with multi-million visitors each month. Norman Lebrecht, a British commentator on music and cultural affairs, approached SO Marketing to update the branding, develop a new site and add a range of modern features to enhance the digital marketing strategy.

The rebranded site is more modern and easier to read, with a new logo and colour palette that still appeals to the classical readership. The design was bespoke to take into account the space needed for banner ads used to monetize the site. A streamlined navigation system and the introduction of categories allows readers to access the content subject they are interested in easily. To further support the user journey, readers are now able to subscribe to content topics they find most interesting.

Naturally with a WordPress WooCommerce site, SEO considerations also enable the site to be found better organically and shared more easily on social media. With future proofing in mind, SO Marketing re-hosted the site onto a platform that will enable continued growth and modern features.

Norman Lebrecht states: “I approached SO Marketing to upgrade my website slippedisc.com, which is the world's most-read classical music news site with a couple of million visitors each month. The current vehicle had been running for seven years and was looking tired in some areas. I also wanted to add a sheaf of new features.

SO gave me rapid response and as many zoom meetings as we needed during Covid. They were, and remain, sensitive to both the site owner and the user responses and we seem to be getting very swiftly to the point where I can launch new features. I can't speak highly enough of Michael Lamey and his team.”

Michael Lamey, operations director, states: “Like many clients, Slipped Disc was running on a dated website and wanted to modernise its content management system. With a brand new WordPress website, Slipped Disc is now ready to take its digital offering to the next level with an array of new features and digital monetisation options.”
