Michael Kors SS20 Press Day

Michael Kors were showcasing their ‘American Pie’ SS20 runway in an elevated Press Preview in the Saatchi Gallery

The two rooms we had available needed to evoke the same optimistic ‘blue skies’ mindset as the clothing runway design, and incorporate the underlying playful and youthful school of thought produced in the MK clothing line. The rooms need to transition from the daytime press launch to evening VIP cocktail party, with a DJ representing the values of Michael Kors.

With a tight turn around and two rooms to design we had our work cut out. The entrance room and Collection display followed a similar design to the look of the show from New York Fashion Week, with six 3m trees lining the room to create a central walkway leading to a striking central screen previewing footage from the show. Mannequins were displayed in artist clusters in and around the trees, and accessories and shoes were displayed on wooden park benches. A blue skies counter/DJ booth and dramatic lighting completed the look of the space and provided the seamless transition from day to night.

Moving through the gallery, the second room need to display accessories in a fun and interactive way. We designed the room as an installation complete with a sneaker moment, mirror bar and display wall for eyewear and watches. Floral MK charms and bespoke MK charm hooks created a soft, floral handbag wall. Neon flowers hung from the ceiling and a neon jungle cage, produced by artist Cyril de Commarque, completed the lighting and look of this room. The guest journey concluded with a homage to the New York photo booth of an oversized picnic display, complete with oversized cherries, lemons and cherry pie.

The evening was topped off with delicious canapés and cocktails, and DJ EM&ME providing American pop classics as the soundtrack to the night.
