Creative Agency Kairos Media builds Gamescom in Minecraft

The Gamescom event hall was built in just under 2 weeks

Global creative social agency, Kairos Media, have brought Gamescom to life for the first time ever in Minecraft. With gamescom 2020 going digital amidst the global pandemic, there'll be no event hall this year for the public to explore… until now. The 2020 Minecraft event hall was built in just under 2 weeks and the playable map consists of a main entrance, two side entrances, and one central hall, surrounded by two open-air 'fields' and 4 halls on each corner.

Virtually everything is included, from the obvious things like stands and stages, down to things like restrooms, info booths, food stands, even the minor details such as emergency exits are visible. There’s a meet and greet area for streamers and gamers, as well as an area for guests to kick back and relax away from the convention hall. A Gamescom staple, the build also includes a main stage for talks and presentations.

Creating a new experience in a virtual world

The leading trade-fair for video games, annually held in Cologne, Germany, is one of the few world leading events that’s not only a tool for businesses to transact, whether that’s developers partnering with publishers or marketing for Q4 launches, but opens its doors every year to hundreds of thousands of gamers who attend to get their hands on the latest, up-and-coming titles.

CEO Mike Craddock stated “For those that attend every year and are going to miss that physical aspect of gamescom, or those that have never attended and wish they could, we wanted to create a new experience in a virtual world. Minecraft is unlimited when it comes to scale and was, without doubt, the only game that would allow us to recreate the event, ensuring the detail we wanted to bring to life wasn’t lost. We wanted to allow the public to explore a virtual Gamescom alongside the digital event this year that we’re very much looking forward to.”

Influencer SeaPeeKay delivers walkthrough of the map

Influencer SeaPeeKay, who has worked closely with Kairos Media before on projects for KFC Gaming, delivered a walkthrough of the event. The map is downloadable and players can explore for free.

CEO Mike Craddock added “We’re going to miss attending Gamescom this year. It’s one of the biggest events of the year for us from a marketing play and gives the Kairos Group brand a lot of exposure. Whether that’s meeting in person with clients we work with globally - in previous years we’ve run custom dinners, hosted parties and had our own booth - or meeting new clients. The team looks forward to getting hands on with the games that are essentially the heroes of the projects we work on. Getting hands on with the product allows us to deliver a social strategy or creative execution that brings the product to life for the consumer. I’m interested to see how the event plays out digitally this year; we will of course be attending.”
