City Harvest: Pandemic Response

Good work for the community is good work for all.

Some charities act at a snail’s pace. Not City Harvest London. Today, in the UK more and more people are living in food poverty including many in its capital, who miss an estimated 9M meals every month. City Harvest’s mission is to help feed the hungry. They do it by rescuing surplus food and distributing it to organizations that put food on the table. Where there’s a problem, City Harvest offers a solution. And they do it quickly!

City Harvest needed our help to make a bigger impact in the community. The organization relies on donations to stay up and running. Donations of money, food and time from volunteers is what keeps it afloat. Our team jumped at the opportunity and helped to deliver all three.

We applied the City Harvest model in our work with them, rescuing any surplus hours and putting them to good use. From strategic communications planning to social media strategy, content creation and live production support, we’ve taken what we do best to address City Harvest’s needs. In addition, we pledged the time of two volunteers every month, to head out in vans to meet and help in a true all hands-on-deck fashion.

Most recently, we helped City Harvest create several donation appeal videos to raise its visibility on social platforms and beyond, most recently for their emergency COVID-19 film to encourage donations during the initial crisis. We also wrote scripts for sports ambassadors, engaged influencers and created a pitch deck to encourage donations via recipients of a food-focused VC fund.

We’ve successfully helped City Harvest where they really need it. The most recent video generated more engagement than ever – generating almost 40x more views than average – and was the main piece of content in their COVID emergency appeal, which helped them deliver 4m meals during the crisis. And we were overjoyed when Laura Winningham, City Harvest London’s CEO, received one of the highest honors, The Order of the British Empire, for her service to feeding the capital’s hungry.
