Encouraging other agencies to become carbon neutral

Back in 2019, we became one of the first carbon neutral agencies in the UK. And we’re proud to announce that we’ve taken another step towards a sustainable future by continuing this for 2019/20.

Why is being a carbon neutral agency important?

All businesses have a carbon footprint. This is calculated by the amount of energy used and emissions created by activities such as the day-to-day running of an office with electricity and gas, train travel, mileage and flights.

These activities contribute to greenhouse gases which are the main cause of climate change. By reducing and offsetting your CO2 emissions, you can become carbon neutral and balance your contribution to global warming.

How to become carbon neutral

In order to become a carbon neutral business, you first need to calculate your emissions. We worked with Carbon Footprint Ltd to do this, it offers a free online calculator for smaller businesses and an appraisal service for larger ones.

Once you’ve determined the extent of your organisation’s emissions, you can set targets to reduce them and work to achieve these in a realistic timeframe.

The final step is to offset the emissions that you can’t remove. This is done by supporting projects that combat climate change and care for local communities. For example, this year we’re offsetting our 2019/20 carbon emissions by supporting UK tree planting, Kenya reforesting, Brazil rainforest protection, and community projects in developing countries.

Spreading the word

Although we’re incredibly proud to be contributing to a greener, more environmentally friendly future, we’re also aware that more needs to be done. That’s why we have our very own eco team working hard to not only keep us carbon neutral in the future, but also look for other ways we can reduce our negative impact on the planet.

We’d like to encourage other agencies to follow in our (now much smaller) carbon footsteps and address their own CO2 emissions. If we all work together now to put measures in place, we can battle climate change in a real and effective way.
