I’m going to tell you the secrets on how to go viral on TikTok in the simplest way possible

Spend an hour a day on the FYP. Spend an hour scrolling on TikTok and take notes of recurring sounds you hear. If it’s funny, growing and relatable then use that sound and sync it into your brand in the most simplistic way possible. Furthermore take a look at what other people have done and honestly… copy them. “But that’s not creative!” no no… listen Karen, TikTok is about replicating trending sounds and songs. When everyone is aware of the sound going around they’ll pay more attention to it. On god (TikTok reference, but say it out loud in a hardcore American accent) “ON GAWD” That really is the simplist way on going Viral on TikTok, do that everyday, make a couple videos a week for a year then come back to me in a years time and you can thank me then ;)

However much I express the simplest way of going viral on TikTok, a lot of people don’t listen or think they ‘understand the assignment’’ but simply put… They’re normally wrong. The social media space isn’t the same anymore it is very different. So, today I want to talk about risk and the problems with not fully enhancing your viral capabilities because you are limiting yourself to (essentially) a golden ticket. Back in 2013 Vine was born and released to the world. If you could teleport back to that date and know the success Vine was going to have then surely you would’ve taken full advantage of the platform to grow and establish your base audience. You wish you could do that now but you can’t. (INSERT MASSIVE PLOT TWIST HERE) - You have that opportunity to do that right now with TikTok. Dogs go viral, babies go viral, RYANAIR go viral so why are some people with brands and startups still sleeping on the platform and not using the tools available at their doorstep to go viral?

Prior to the launch of TikTok back in 2018 I predict that the platform will stick around and be leading the social media pack for the foreseeable future, with their recent updates over the last few months targeting brands with tools and spark ads, the rise of influencers and TikTok shopping is helping brands engage more with the platform. With all of this comes the tikTok algorithm and this particular algorithm likes to change a lot, so here are some pointers on how to thrive each week on TikTok:

The best times to post on TikTok

Under your TikTok analytics if you go to the ‘followers’ tab you will find exactly who your audience is and when they are most active. Circulate your content around them because the chances of your audience seeing your content at the complete opposite time opposed to your best time would be a terrible idea.

TikTok Tools and hashtags

TikTok tools such as the ‘green-screen effect’ and using in-app text with the AI voice are great ways of tampering with TikTok’s algorithm as you are using the features they like to push most. So implement these features as best you can into TikTok content. Furthermore, hashtags help TikTok decide what niche your content belongs in. If you’re a vegan and promote vegan products then ideally you want to use a couple hashtags based on that specific niche (#vegantok) and also include a couple ‘broad hashtags’ (#fyp #viral #foryoupage) the general ones help trigger the For You Page.

Full screen vertical Videos

If you’re filming in landscape and will be disturbing that footage to TikTok then punch in and make full use of the vertical screen. That way audiences will still feel like they’re on TikTok watching engaging content rather than some tiny little screen with a huge blurry background. Here is a side by side on what things should look like and what things shouldn’t look like:

Can you see how much more appealing picture 1 on the left looks compared to picture 2 on the right? All the dead space is ugly! Don’t repeat these mistakes!
