43% and Rising: A podcast about Women in Marketing

Listen to article

If you’ve watched a few episodes of Mad Men, you’ll have seen marketing offices filled with men who just love to cause a ruckus

Luckily, the world of marketing has come a long way since then.

These days people generally assume that women are more likely to occupy a marketing role. According to Axxon, this is true – as their research found that women are slightly more likely to enter the marketing world than men (21% vs 16%).

Yet, the percentage of women in a CMO position still stands at 43% (hence the name of our podcast). And while this figure still isn’t proportionate to the number of women in the industry, the good news is that the number is slowly rising.

At Earnest, we’re shedding a light on women in marketing roles that head teams, departments and companies. We explore the trials and tribulations of the women who have made it to the top. Giving advice to those listening, not only for those interested in marketing, but to anyone striving for more.

Here’s some episodes we’ve already released.

S1 Ep1: Social Impact and Fintech with Jona Doda

Jona Doda is the Head of Marketing at RentProfile. Jona explores her reasons for deviating from her institutional studies in Economics and pursuing a career in marketing. She speaks with us about the importance of working for a company that shares your own core values and beliefs. Not only that, but how it’s also becoming increasingly important to work in a sector that moves you. Explore Jona’s stories and advice here.

S1 Ep2: Placements, networking and the importance of resilience with Stephanie Cunningham

Stephanie Cunningham is an Industry Marketing Manager – taking care of Global Business Marketing at Facebook. Stephanie sheds light on her journey into marketing, speaking in detail about how enrolling on placements was instrumental in shaping her career.

Her experience of the 2008 recession is akin to the struggles lots of young people are facing in the fallout from the pandemic. Listen here if you’d like to know more about how she coped with turbulent times.

S1 Ep3: From B2C to B2B with Isobel Sita-Lumsden

Isobel Sita-Lumsden joined us in June to share her story. Isobel works for TikTok as the Head of B2B Marketing Europe. She’s a huge advocate for B2B, and she touches on her transition from B2C to B2B – something many people in marketing will be familiar with.

TikTok grew tremendously over the course of the Covid-19 outbreak, and her workload became pretty hectic. Isobel touches on the highs and lows of fast-paced work environments, and how it works for her type of career. She also talks about her younger years where she didn’t quite know what she wanted to do, and how landing marketing has been a gift to her.

Check out more about her career on our third episode of 43% and Rising, where she also gives tips on how to be a better marketer.
