Donating to The Turing Trust

3 October 2018 14:17pm

As part of our recent office move, we took the opportunity to upgrade our IT infrastructure and make sure everyone in the business had a laptop for ease of working. This left us with over twenty PC towers that would no longer be needed and we wanted to make sure they didn’t go to waste.

We immediately thought back to The Turing Trust, a charity that was brought to our attention back in April thanks to a suggestion from Patsy as part of our monthly charity donation scheme.

The Turing Trust is an international development organisation which supports IT-supported learning across Africa. Since 2009, they have sent IT equipment to schools in Ghana, Malawi, Liberia and Botswana, enabling 13 million hours of digital learning across 144 schools.

“It's donations of IT like these that enable us to bring vital digital skills to students across Africa. The PCs donated by Builtvisible will make it possible for an entire school to gain access to IT-supported learning and the benefits of the digital age: that's just over 300 students per year!”

Our machines are now with the charity, where they will have the eLibrary loaded on to them, before being labelled, scanned and boxed ready for the journey to Africa. The towers we have donated are part of a 40ft shipping container consignment they are currently working on – double the size of the 20ft container they have previously organised!
