Together in Heart Failure

Challenge

Challenge

A Fortune 500 healthcare company wanted to go “beyond the pill,” holistically influencing patient well-being through a digital platform.

Approach

We sat with heart failure patients and caregivers to design a product catered to their specific needs, limitations, and health.

Value

Our platform provided a powerful space for community, education, and growth, and because the product was built to scale, it could be easily applied to new brands.

Product concepting

Our client’s initial idea was to build a community on an existing social network, but through audits and research we discovered this limited privacy controls, personalization, and access to information that could lead to better patient care. Instead, we decided to quickly built and launched a custom product, which could use as a prototype to test and validate assumptions before a public launch.

Uncovering a broader business opportunity

Though preliminary and ongoing user analysis, we shifted the community beyond its original intent to create a product that could improve quality of life for people living with heart failure. We prioritized capabilities that could deliver personalized information based on where the patient is in their journey—from diagnosis to managing their disease in maturity. In this process, we also discovered the opportunity to collect a much richer layer of data than what’s otherwise possible in the healthcare space, exposing opportunities to serve a second, physician audience and create new revenue streams.

Product development & lifecycle management

Close collaboration with the client enabled us to invent a new process to expedite legal, regulatory, medical, and editorial reviews. This nimble approach also led to understanding future needs from other brands, so we developed features that ensured every potential healthcare community would be able to cater to individual needs and attract individual personalities, like custom URLs, branding, PW-protected features, and other unique features just for them. As we moved from prototype to public launch, we worked with our client’s partner team to include advocacy organizations in the planning, building, and monitoring of the community.
