Reflecting Back; Thinking Ahead

James Brown, Director at 4 Roads Ltd reflects on 2018 and thinks ahead to whats in store for 2019...

The time between Christmas and New Year always provides the opportunity for quiet contemplation. Apart from losing track of what day it is, I enjoy this period because it provides an ideal moment to reflect on the past twelve months and to define what we want to achieve in the year ahead. I think for a lot of businesses there is a pivotal year and in many ways 2018 feels like the year where everything started to fit into place for 4 Roads.

What has ultimately led to this? For me it’s quite simple: the team, which includes our core team but also our non-executive directors who were appointed earlier this year and who have already made an incredibly positive impact. We will be formally announcing these appointments soon.

Crucially for us, every member of the team buys into what we are trying to achieve and there is a genuine sense that we are all pulling in the same direction. This was highlighted when we recently visited a major client in Hamburg just before Christmas.

We were doing a retrospective review of our first project. From our perspective, there were definitely areas for improvement which we were eager to highlight. We were taken aback when the client told us that we were too hard on ourselves and overall, they were genuinely delighted with how the entire team pulled together to get the project completed (which included many late nights and weekends). It was acknowledged that not once did any member of the team push back on going the extra mile but instead they embraced one of our key values: “always put customers first”.

Even over the Christmas period, I’ve been in regular communication with one of our developers who has offered to do extra time to help ensure we have a client project delivered for CES in early January. I recognise that this level of commitment is not something that should be taken for granted and I am grateful that we’ve built a team of passionate individuals who are genuinely excited to be involved in innovative digital projects.

We’ve got some incredible projects in the pipeline for 2019 and one of our immediate priorities is finding an account manager who will add genuine value to some of our most important accounts.
