This week’s brand chart features Coca Cola Friendly Twist, a feel-good video from Ogilvy Paris and Singapore which demonstrates a new type of bottle cap which can only be opened using another bottle cap.
Introducing the bottles to a campus full of college freshmen, it aims to encourage the students to interact with each other, make friends and break the ice. Following on from the success of their personalised cans campaign it’s a nice way of linking the brand with sharing and friendship, as well as doubling sales...
Also featuring is the first look at Google’s Self-Driving Car Project, which has reached the prototype stage and is ready for some very lucky (and brave?) volunteers to take a ride in a fully autonomous car. With participants putting their lives in the hands of the machine, designers have clearly gone to great lengths to make the vehicle feel as non-threatening as possible, the end result resembling a mix between a smart car and Wall-E. It’s still a long way from being released to the public and it might not get the engines of petrolheads revving, but A First Drive
could be an intriguing first look at the future of transport.
UGC & Entertainment Chart
In this week's UGC chart is the latest creation from the epic song-and-dance parody channel, The Hillywood Show, in which comedy duo Hilly and Hannah Hindi perform a Doctor Who Time Warp mash-up
. The sisters’ tongue-in-cheek versions of Hollywood blockbusters and TV favourites has seen their audience grow to over 500,000 followers with a total of over 100,000,000 video views.
Elsewhere, musician Rob Scallon tops the UGC chart
by putting his own twist on Slayer’s metal classic Raining Blood by replacing the awesome guitar lines with some old-timey banjo shredding. Taken from his series of “Metal played on instruments that aren’t metal”, even if you’re not into Slayer it’s worth a watch for the talent and musicianship on display (plus the spoon solo is pretty epic). If you enjoyed it, check out cello version of Chop Suey by System of a Down
Squeak Of The Week
Squeak of the week comes from National Geographic, which previews adventurer Dean Potter’s extraordinary film “When Dogs Fly” with this footage called “ Dean Potter BASE Jumps With His Dog
”. Either watch it for Potter’s determination and perseverance in the face of adversity, or because HIS DOG WEARS TINY LITTLE DOG GOGGLES!
