Phone-hacking trial: The Labour MP's Christmas card and the trouble with Twitter
When court this afternoon the judge gave the jury a reminder not to be influenced by anything they saw or read outside the court. Saunders told the court that "things on Twitter that are trending" had been brought to his attention, referring to what he called a picture gravely prejudicial to Rebekah Brooks. The judge told the jury to "take absolutely no notice of them all together". Saunders expressed his frustration "for all of us trying to achieve fair justice".
Christmas card: Nick Brown MP caused a stir
The jury was then shown an electronic image of a Christmas card, sent by Labour MP Nick Brown, which was the subject of an article in today's Independent. It showed photographs of David Cameron, Rebekah Brooks and a horse under the slogan "The Conservatives will help you to keep warm this winter".
The court then moved on to another schedule, showing, the prosecution allege, a list of "taskings" from the News of the World to convicted phone hacker Glenn Mulcaire. In Mulcaire's notes he would, the prosecution say, write the name of who had requested the voicemail interception on the top left corner of each page. The set of documents given to the jury shows the notes, the name on the top left and, where available, the article that relates to the subject. The defence have made it clear they do not accept or agree with this evidence.
After an hour of the prosecution reading documents into evidence, Judge Saunders asked the jury "have you had enough?" adding "I've had enough". He then dismissed the jury asking them to return on Tuesday morning.
All of the defendants continue to deny all of the charges, The trial continues.
