It’s the all new Beijing Design Week! This event is helping to raise the profile of China’s designers and it’s design industry, while showcaseing international design to the inhabitants of the capital. China has much to prove and even more to teach, these 6 days of exhibitions, installations and talks aim to do just that. http://www.bjdw.org (sadly the website doesn’t really seem to work very well)

As BJDW is a state run affair, this means there is inevitably state run copy writing! According to the official press release;

The country is moving away from an economic model based on low-cost manufacturing towards one emphasizing innovation, creativity and value-added products. At the same time, China’s unprecedented urbanization and social and environmental challenges call for new solutions, while an increasingly affluent population is growing consumer demand for better-designed goods.

The Beijing representatives of New York design firm 2×4 provide the branding and website for the inaugural year–I’m guessing this has something to do with the creative director also living in New York.

Still curious about what’s happening and can’t get the website to work, here is a few of the top design blogs here.
