"If you find that you are the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room,” says Taylor Sturtevant (Brand Metrics's director of customer success UK and APAC).

At Brand Metrics, as our product and client base grows, we also need to learn and grow. Our Customer Success team is at the core of what powers our relationships with our clients and, as we’ve been continuing to spread our wings in the US region, we’re now ready to expand even further.

As Brand Metrics director of customer success for US and APAC since 2021, Taylor Sturtevant is leading this charge, guided by a strong career philosophy of her own.

“If you find that you are the smartest person in the room, or you think you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room,” says Taylor. “When I joined, I was really excited to be the least intelligent person in the room and just soak up all the knowledge that Brand Metrics had to offer.”

Redefining our approach to customer success and how we recruit talent, Taylor recently returned to her old university, California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo - known as Cal Poly SLO - to inspire the next generation of marketing professionals and to introduce them to the innovation behind Brand Metrics.

Taylor spoke to over 200 eager students about the power of customer insights, international marketing and market research, offering a behind the scenes look into the work we do at Brand Metrics, why we stand out and why new graduates should consider joining our rapidly growing team.

"I was so impressed by the students I met, and I made some great connections that I'm really hoping will bear fruit in the future,” Taylor says.

She came back with great results, including 26 LinkedIn connections from students interested in our work, nine emails and six CVs to kickstart the recruitment process, and one in-person interview already underway. One of the students said to me, ‘I have motivation coursing through my veins’, which I found flattering and inspired me in return…”

But the visit wasn’t just about recruiting people to join our team - it was about reaching out and inspiring younger generations. Sharing real-world experiences, challenges and successes faced in the industry are integral to showing the importance of customer insights and the evolving landscape of marketing. Real world experience trumps standard recruitment, and Taylor’s time at Cal Poly proves just that.

While at the university, Taylor made important connections with professors who, in return, have been considering graduates they’d like to send our way, creating a pipeline of talent ready to join the world of brand measurement.

“The best way to learn what career is right for you is by diving in head first and gaining real experience,” she says. “The marketing and advertising landscape is evolving and with it, so should the people. To stay ahead of the game, it is really vital to embrace change and listen to the industry to better nurture innovation in all areas of our business.”

While teaching people more about the importance of what we do in the industry is a great way of inspiring people to take new steps in their career, the good karma that comes with leaning in and building genuine connections is just as rewarding.

“The slogan of Cal Poly university, ‘Learn by Doing’, couldn’t be more fitting when starting up a career or experiencing a new role, “ says Taylor. “Investing in the future of marketing and adtech isn’t just about filling roles, it’s about nurturing new talent and creating opportunities for learning and growth. Thinking outside of the box and approaching hiring in new ways, like we were trying to do at Cal Poly, unlocks opportunities that might not have been there otherwise.”

While this only marks the start of Taylor’s hiring journey, she’ll be continuing to look for talent new and experienced across the US region. Taylor is currently looking for a Customer Success Analyst to join her fast-growing Client Success team, supporting growth and adoption of our SaaS platform within our North American and APAC client base. She’s looking for candidates with problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills to provide outstanding support to clients, working side by side with her to tag-team client requests and day-to-day tasks.
