In the star-studded spot, Clooney and Garner bet on how other party guests will take their coffee. As a result, the actor loses his sleek convertible.

A new TV commercial from espresso capsule brand Nespresso suggests its brand ambassador, George Clooney, needs to put a little luck in his cup.

Announced last week at an exclusive screening during the Cannes Film Festival, ‘The bet’ presents a lighthearted competition between Clooney, Ozark star Julia Garner and Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley.

The film opens with Clooney begrudgingly handing over his valet parking ticket, admitting that he lost a bet. To demonstrate Clooney’s skin in the game, the film then cuts to a party that took place earlier in the evening, during which Clooney and Garner go head-to-head, predicting other guests’ coffee choices.

Things don’t look good for Clooney when Garner predicts Ashley’s order. The film closes with the two women driving off in their new prize: Clooney’s sleek car. Meanwhile, a disgruntled Clooney attempts to ride away on Garner’s less glamorous vintage scooter while donning a pink helmet. He lost the bet.

“Working with Julia Garner and Simone Ashley was great and we all had the opportunity to inject our own personalities into the film,” Clooney said in a statement shared with The Drum. “I don’t like to take myself too seriously, so I didn’t mind being outwitted by the two of them, even if it was me who ended up wearing the bright pink motorcycle helmet. I think I pulled it off well.”

Clooney has played himself in Nespresso ads for nearly 20 years. His peer Brad Pitt became a brand ambassador for high-end coffee brand De’Longhi in 2021.
